TECH: The Hot or Not? App...        by Frenchie Bouvier

So OK, there's this app that's been around for a little over 15 years now and it's called Hot or Not. When it first launched back in the year 2000 it was just a website. Created by James Hong and Jim Young the was made originally over a disagreement about a passing women's attractiveness. Basically the two buddy's couldn't agree on just how hot she was. The site originally named, "Am I Hot or Not." Within a week of its launch it had reached approximately 2 million page views per day. It took only a few months and the site was soon on the radar of CNET and NBCi on Net Neilsen's ratings top 25 advertising domains.

To stay ahead of the game and keep up with all of the rising costs Hong and Young added an additional feature which was a match making component to the website called, "Meet Me at Hot or Not." Basically driving traffic to the actual website which was to be known as a "system of range voting." The ideal was to drive more users to the website which would ultimately increase numbers and in return increased dollars.

Hot or Not has inspired many of today's social media apps and  platforms many of those you and I use regularly. Such as Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook which was originally Facemash and YouTube was also inspired by Hong and Youngs website creation. The Hot or Not app was officially birthed into existence on May 22nd 2013. The main function of the Hot or Not app is to connect their community users who are within a 30 mile radius of whereever you are in the world all while allowing them to view and rate multiple candidates for networking and chatting purposes. Young and Hong was rumored to have sold their app on February 8th 2008 for 20 million dollars.
